Is anything ever truly free?

When you are looking at options for getting cash, don’t you want to know what it costs or what’s the catch. We always want to and recommend you do it too!

Whether you’re considering selling your channel completely, splitting royalties on select video earnings or handing over your entire back catalog, make sure you have full visibility into not only the amount you are receiving but also the potential costs (or lost revenue) you are giving up in exchange for that money.

You’ve worked hard to create new and engaging videos, build a captive audience and grow your brand. If your income or your team’s payroll is dependent on ad revenue from your back catalog videos, then it’s likely important for you to ensure you keep a fair portion of it.

If the full revenue of that content is handed over to your funder you are giving away a huge (and likely unknown) portion of your future earnings. There is no maximum they can earn off your growth – meaning no limit to the amount of lost revenue you just gave up.

As you invest more time and money into growing your channel and producing bigger more elaborate videos, there is a ripple effect of an increase in views on back catalog videos. If you were to think of the earnings from your channel as the water filling up a bucket make sure you know where the holes are. As you pour more time, money and effort into the financial growth of your channel, make sure sure you are aware of how much is leaking out and when this will stop.

Find the balance of filling up your bucket with the boost in cash but also ensure that the leaks aren’t so big that you are losing way more than you need to.
